The Tutu Project

Ik las onlangs op een lokale nieuwssite een artikel over The Tutu Project. Ik had er al eerder over gehoord, maar wist niet precies wat dit project inhield. Ik ben heel blij dat ik dat artikel heb gelezen en nu wél weet wat dit project juist inhoudt en hoe en waarom het begonnen is.En omdat ik dit project zo fantastisch vind, vond ik dat ik er wel een berichtje aan mocht wijden, zodat ook jullie kennis kunnen maken met dit project!

I recently read an article about The Tutu Project on a local newssite. I heard of it before, but never really knew what it was all about, so I am really happy I read the article. Because now I do know what this project is all about and how and why it started. And because I think this project is so fantastic I decided to devote an entire post about it on my blog, so you guys can also get to know this lovely project!

Het project zag het levenslicht in 2003, toen Linda Carey te horen kreeg dat ze borstkanker had. Ze genas, maar na drie jaar kwam de kanker terug. Daarom besloot haar man Bob Carey foto's van zichzelf in een roze tutu te maken, om zijn vrouw te laten lachen tijdens de chemotherapie. "Het begon als een grapje, maar ik zag dat het mensen inspireerde. Daarom ben ik niet gestopt." Ondertussen is ook de Carey foundation opgericht. Dit fonds zamelt geld in voor vrouwen waarbij borstkanker is vastgesteld, de overlevers en hun familie.

It all started ten years ago, when Linda Carey was diagnosed with breast cancer. She recovered, but the cancer struck again three years later. That's why her husband Bob Carey decided to make pictures of himself in a pink tutu, to let his wife laugh during the chemo therapy. "It started as a lark, but I saw it inspired people. That's why I didn't stop." Meanwhile The Carey foundation has been founded. This foundation's mission is to provide support ro women diagnosed with breast cancer, survivors and their family members.

In bovenstaand filmpje vertellen Linda en Bob hun verhaal aan de wereld: hoe zwaar het is, maar dat er altijd hoop is en moet zijn, dat we er voor elkaar moeten zijn, dat we elkaar moeten kunnen laten lachen. Dat we elkaar moeten kunnen inspireren. We zien hoeveel moeite mensen kunnen doen voor elkaar, hoeveel mensen voor elkaar kunnen betekenen, hoe hard we allemaal verbonden zijn.

In this movie Linda and Bob are telling us their story: how though it is, but also that there's always hope, that we need to be there for eachother, that we need to make eachother laugh. That we need to inspire eachother. We can see how much effort people can do for eachother, how much people can mean to eachother, how much we're all connected.

It's just a good story. About life. About inspiration.
