Mijn eerste concert als 21-jarige was dat van The Dandy Warhols. Ik kende deze band eigenlijk alleen van de theme song van Veronica Mars: We Used To Be Friends. Later ontdekte ik dat ook Bohemian Like You van hen is (zoek het op, je kent het zeker wel). Ook andere nummers van hen kon ik wel smaken. Het concert vond op een zondagavond plaats in Trix, Antwerpen: dat is perfect voor mij. Op naar het concert dus!
ENGLISH: The first band I saw live as a 21-year-old was The Dandy Warhols. I only knew them from the Veronica Mars theme song: We Used To Be Friends. Later on I discovered Bohemian Like You is also one of their songs (look it up, you definitely know it). I also liked some of their other songs. The concert was on a Sunday evening at Trix, Antwerp: perfect for me, so me and my sister decided to just go!
Mijn zus was aan de late kant, waardoor we een deel van het voorprogramma hebben gemist. Het stuk dat we nog hebben gehoord van de Engelse band Dark Horses was wel goed. Psychedelische muziek op z'n best! Dit was de eerste keer dat ik dit type muziek echt kon appreciëren en mijn zus wilde zelfs een CD kopen van hen, so good job Dark Horses! Volgende keer komen we op tijd om hun hele set te zien!
ENGLISH: My sister was a bit later than I expected, so we missed the first part of the suppor tact, called Dark Horses. Too bad, because we really did like the part that we still got to see. Next time we'll have to make sure we get there on time (well, mys sister has to, I was on time!) to see their full set! This was the first time I actually enjoyed psychedelic music, so good job, Dark Horses!
Wat mij deze avond opviel, was het feit dat de drummer bij beide bands mee vooraan het podim staat, in plaats van achteraan, as usual. Voor mij was dit heel vreemd, maar hoe meer ik erover nadenk, hoe logisch het lijkt. De drummer is een essentieel deel van de band en verdient het om naast de rest te staan/zitten. Bij dit soort muziek gaat het, aangezien de bandleden zelden van plaats veranderen, terwijl bij een rock concert de band over het heel podium springt (behalve de drummer dan).
Ook was het een helemaal ander publiek dan ik gewoon ben. Dit was de derde keer in anderhalve week tijd dat ik naar Trix ging voor een concert en bij elk concert was het publiek verschillend. De eerste keer was voor All Time Low, een poprock band met veel fangirls. Leuk, want het publiek is geobsedeerd door de band en kent dus alle nummers en doet hard mee met alles. Deze obsessie is ook vervelend, aangezien ze er totaal niet tegen kunnen als je per ongeluk voor hen staat of als ze geen/weinig plaats hebben. De keer daarna was voor Halestorm, een rockband, die ik al meerdere keren had gezien. Het verschil met het publiek bij ATL is dat ten eerste de leeftijd net iets hoger ligt en dat ten tweede de sfeer veel gemoedelijker is. Iedereen is nog wel enthousiast en is benieuwd naar de show, maar er hangt een leuke sfeer, waarin je makkelijk nieuwe vrienden maakt! De sfeer bij The Dandy Warhols was ook heel gemoedelijk en de gemiddelde leeftijd van het publiek leek toch rond de 30 te zijn. Ik ken de fangirls en ik houd van de rockshow sfeer, maar dit publiek was een leuke afwisseling!
ENGLISH: This evening was fun, but also eye-opening. The first thing I discovered was that both bands placed the drummer next to them instead of behind them, which I believe is nice, because drummers are an essential part of the band. Ofcourse this is not always possible for bands, because rock band jump across the entire stage all the time, but these bands don't. I also was surprised by the audience. This was the third concert at Trix in one week time and it was always a completetly different kind of audience. The All Time Low audience were all fangirls, who are absosessed with the band. At the Halestorm concert there was a nice atmosphere of enthusiastic people, who like the music, but are also willing to make new friends. It was the typical rock show atmosphere and I love it! The audience at The Dandy Warhols was a bit older than both other concerts, but they were all very relaxed and chilled and that was a nice variety!

Om half tien was het dan tijd voor The Dandy Warhols om aan hun set te beginnen. Ze begonnen mooi op tijd en speelden twee uur (inclusief een plaspauze van de band) ! Ik was wel te vinden voor hun muziek, maar als je slechts enkele nummers kent, is twee uur heel lang. Mijn zus en ik hebben ons wel geamuseerd, maar om iets voor half twaalf begon de vermoeidheid toch wel toe te slaan. Gelukkig begonnen ze toen net de bekende nummers We Used To Be Friends en Bohemian Like You te spelen, waarop we ons nog even lieten gaan. Heel leuk hoe hard het publiek meedeed met klappen en zingen bij deze nummers!
