Op zondag 12 april ging ik naar de Muziekodroom in Hasselt voor het concert van de Ierse band The Answer. Onlangs reviewde ik hun laatste nieuwe album op Festivalblog en gaf het album de hoogste score die ik tot nu toe al gegeven had. Ik was dus bijna verplicht om naar dit concert te gaan. Maar hey, no regrets! De band bracht twee voor mij onbekende voorprogramma's mee: The Picture Books en White Miles.
ENGLISH: Sunday the 12th of April I went to Muziekodroom in Hasselt for the concert of the Irish band The Answer. I recently reviewed their album for Festivalblog en gave it the highest score I have ever given an albu, so I kin of felt compelled to go to their show. The band had The Picture Books and White Miles as support acts.
Ik ging naar dit concert op m'n eentje, maar leerde er al snel mensen kennen. Zo heb ik staan praten met een man met een Finse vrouw en een concertfotograaf. De avond begon echter met de Duitse band The Picture Books. Een tweekoppige band, bestaande uit een drummer en een gitarist/zanger. Simpele drumritmes, maar heerlijke muziek. In de zaal stond ongeveer dertig man te genieten van de muziek.
ENGLISH: I went to this concert on my own, but I immediately met some lovely people. I talked to a dude with a Finnish wife and I also met a concert fotographer. The first band began to play almost as soon as I walked into the venue. The Picture Books is a duo that uses simple drum rhythms, but makes lovely music. It was not crowded in the venue, but all of the people who were there were enjoying themselves!
Na een kleine pauze was het podium gereserveerd voor de (blijkbaar Oostenrijkse, al is dit heel onduidelijk) band White Miles. Deze band was zo energiek en zo enthousiast dat ik hun cd besloot te kopen. Ze beschrijven zichzelf als a dirty pole dance stoner blues rock duo en ik zou eerlijk gezegd geen betere beschrijving kunnen vinden. Beluister hun muziek eens en je begrijpt het ineens helemaal!
ENGLISH: After a little break, the band White Miles came on stage. I'm not sure where they're from, but they were so energetically rock 'n roll that I decided to buy their cd. They describe themselves as a dirty pole dance stoner blues rock duo and honestly, that's a perfect description! When you listen to their music, you'll agree with me!
Ten slotte kwam The Answer uiteindelijk op het podium. Het kleine zaaltje was ondertussen toch al goed gevuld, met vooral vooraan enkele grote fans in band-shirts. De gemiddelde leeftijd van het publiek was zeker hoger dan die van mezelf, maar dat weerhield niemand om er een feestje van te maken. Het enthousiasme van de zanger werkte heel aanstekelijk en iedereen was down for some rock 'n roll. Letterlijk, wanneer de zanger in het publiek kwam en iedereen vroeg om te hurken. Grappig om te zien en leuk om mee te doen! De band speelde oudere nummers en nummers van hun nieuwste album, maar ik miste Long Live The Renegades toch in de setlist.
ENGLISH: Last but not least The Answer came on stage and decided to rock and roll the hell out of the place that night. The venue was pretty crowded and the average age was definitely higher than mine but the atmosphere was nice and everybody was ready to have a great time. Thanks to the singer his enthusiasm the crowd got enthusiastic as well. Everybody was down for some rock 'n roll. Literally. The band played some older songs, but also played some songs of their latest record. I missed Long Live The Renegades in their setlist though.
